Kabul Beggars Increase

In 2009, Afghanistan’s Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) announced that the number of female beggars is increasing and most of these women are forced into begging by their families. The report added: more than 60,000 beggars, most of them women and children, exist in Kabul. Some claimed, number of women forced by their husbands to beg is a clear indicator how oppressive socio-economic and human rights conditions still remain for so many Afghan women, especially those in the most disadvantaged sector of the population
