Kabul’s Children Street Workers

Afghanistan has been through decades of conflicts and it became one of the most dangerous places in the world for children and their mothers to live. Here are some facts to know about Afghan children: One in seven Afghan children will not live to see their fifth birthday. Enrollment in primary education has vastly improved over the past 13 years, but still only 7 girls for every 10 boys are enrolled in primary education. In January 2014, the Guardian reported that half of Afghan children suffer irreversible harm from malnutrition:

“More than half of Afghan girls and boys suffer damage to their minds and bodies that cannot be undone because they are poorly nourished in the crucial first two years of life, doctors and other experts say. The finding raises serious questions about the legacy of more than 10 years of western involvement in Afghanistan.”
