In 2010, Slate wrote: “Afghanistan is not kind to [its] children.” On January 6, 2012, an explosion killed 6 children in southern Afghanistan. AP reported: “The children were rummaging through the trash for food scraps and bottles in the southern province of Uruzgon when the blast killed them.” The explosive device was hidden in a trash heap. Also a m was also killed and four other children were wounded.The U.N. estimates IEDs and suicide attacks accounted for half of nearly 1,500 civilian deaths in the first six months of last year, the most recent statistics.

What happens if you have more than one brother and you all need to share one bike? This is an example which is quite common in Afghanistan. The drive told me: “You shouldn’t be worry about injuries, it’s fun and memorable and more importantly a fast way to avoid Kabul traffic.” In 2007, a research center found this: The 179 out of 500 persons were literate, of which 2.8% have 1-3, 34% have 4-7, and 63.2 % have over 8 family members. However from remained 321 persons 4% have 1-3, 43.8 % have 4-7, and 52.2% have more than 8 family members.

During the Taliban regime women were locked up in at home, they were not allowed to go out for shopping or work in the public places. Since the fall of the Taliban in late 2001, many would agree that the political and cultural position of Afghan women has improved substantially. Today, Afghan women have a predominant presence in the Afghan political domain. According to UN, women represent almost 28% of Afghanistan’s National Parliament, 9% higher than the world’s average of women in parliament.

Helmand river is the longest in Afghanistan by the length of 1,150 km. the river rises from Hindu Kush and ends Hamun-i-Helmand in Sistan & Baluchistan province of Iran. One of the two primary arms of the river crosses through Lashkar Gah, imparting an attractive air of a riverside city to it. It makes for a pleasant setting for the citizens of Lashkar Gah to picnic. The river is deep enough at Lashkar Gah to allow for varied water sports, including swimming and boating. Boats are available for hire to the citizens.

Afghanistan is the worst country for a child to be born in, according to the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees. Three decades of ongoing conflict have left tens of thousands of children orphaned on the street. The challenges are daunting, especially for children and women. Even though political and economic uncertainty and personal and community insecurity still exist in much of Afghanistan. 1 in 4 children die before reaching their 5th birthday.
