Hazara Mosque Burned by Sunni Kuchis

This is a Shiite Hazara mosque in Behsud district that was burned by Sunni Pashtun-Kuchis. Every year around April and May, violent clashes erupts between local Hazaras and incoming Pashtun Kuchis in the pastures of Eastern Hazajarat. In the summer of 2008, I along with a number of UN field mission investigators traveled throughout the Behsud district to document the wreaks and the destruction that the Kuchis brought to the Hazara local population. In that year alone, thousands of houses, including schools, libraries and mosques were burnt down; trees and plants were destroyed; people and animals were killed, and many fled the area by Kuchis. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai who has a Kuchi background is running for presidential election, expected for April 5. It’s unlikely for him to get any vote from Hazaras who have been suffering from pain inflicted by Kuchis.
